MetRec is a software package for the automatic detection and analysis of video meteors. MetRec observations can be submitted to the IMO by following the instructions below:
Step 1: Upload your data
Connect to the VMO file server using an SFTP client (such as the free WinSCP).
For each observing night, upload all MetRec output files to the following directory:
/METREC/OBSERVER_CODE/SYSTEM_CODE/YYYYMMDD/
For example, Geert Barentsen (BARGE) using system METCAM5 in the night of 21-22 April 2010 should upload all files into:
/METREC/BARGE/METCAM5/20100421/
Note that you need to register your observer code on this site before submitting data.
The codes should be all uppercase and not contain spaces.
You are also allowed to upload a single ".zip" archive file as follows:
/METREC/OBSERVER_CODE/SYSTEM_CODE/name.zip
For example:
/METREC/BARGE/METCAM5/april.zip
This zip-archive should contain one or more subdirectories of the form "YYYYMMDD/".
The archive will be extracted on the server as part of step 2.
Step 2: Validate your data
Navigate to "Camera observations" -> "Submit MetRec data" -> "Step 2" and use the interface to check each night for errors. Note that you need to be logged into the VMO website with your observer code for this step!
If problems are found, you will need to add, edit or delete certain files of your observation on the SFTP file server until the error is fixed. When no errors are present, you will be given the opportunity to finally submit your data into the database.
