The VMO contains a collection of data submitted by various groups and observers in the meteor science community. In accord with the policies of the International Astronomical Union and in the spirit of The Astronomers’ Data Manifesto (R. Norris, 2007), the VMO aims to provide open access to these meteor science data archives for scientific or educational purposes.
A lot of effort and resources have been invested to obtain the data and maintain the archives. For this reason, we ask you to give proper credit to the authors of the data that you are using. The following conditions apply:
- When using data, you shall provide proper credit to the authors/observers by citing their names and, if possible, providing references to their original work. The VMO does every effort to track and display this information.
- Although a significant effort is made to ensure the quality of the data, we cannot guarantee that all the data is of scientific quality. It remains the task of the user to verify the origin and reliability of the data. Use this service at your own risk.
- Please credit the VMO if you made use of a service it provided. For example: "This research has made use of the data and tools provided by Virtual Meteor Observatory (VMO) under the auspices of the International Meteor Organization (IMO)."
